Before and After Photos

What is Stellar IPL?

The M22 IPL is a non-laser, light-based treatment modality on the Stellar M22 platform The non-ablative light energy heats tissues, causing thermocoagulation – a process that remodels skin by causing a controlled injury in its deeper layers (the dermis). However, unlike some laser treatments, the process does not damage the uppermost layers (the epidermis). (1)

What Does Stellar IPL Treat?

IPL is an effective treatment for the following conditions:

  • Acne
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Diffuse Redness
  • Rosacea
  • Melasma
  • Leg Veins
  • Facial Veins
  • Broken Capillaries
  • Pigmented Lesions
  • Sun Spots
  • Age Spots
  • Spider Veins

Over time, the controlled injury in the dermis triggers the body’s healing mechanisms, stimulating collagen production and dermal remodeling in the treatment area.

Acne

Acne affects millions of people, regardless of age or gender. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including hormones, genetics, and lifestyle choices. While there are many types of acne medication available, they do not always provide the desired results. Fortunately, IPL therapy has emerged as an effective non-invasive treatment for acne and acne-prone skin.

IPL photofacials target the bacteria and oil glands that cause acne. It also helps reduce the appearance of redness and inflammation caused by acne. Studies show that after just four treatments, patients achieved a 49% reduction in their acne severity score. (2) The penetration of light energy into the skin causes it to heat up and stimulate collagen production. This process helps improve skin texture, reduce redness and hyperpigmentation, and prevent future acne breakouts.

Rosacea

Before and After Photos

Rosacea is a common and chronic skin condition characterized by facial redness, flushing, and the appearance of small blood vessels on the nose and cheeks. It can also cause acne-like bumps and pustules, as well as thickening of the skin on the nose.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) targets and reduces the appearance of vascular lesions, broken capillaries, and spider veins. The light energy heats up the blood vessels, causing them to collapse and be absorbed by the body, resulting in clearer, more even-toned skin. Studies show that IPL can clear facial rosacea by almost 78%, with minimal side effects. (3)

Pigmented Lesions

Before and After Photos

Pigmented lesions can occur at any age, and they are often a result of sun exposure, genetics, or aging. They can appear on the skin in various forms, such as age spots, freckles, and brown spots.

During an IPL treatment, the device delivers pulses of light to the targeted area. The light energy is absorbed by the chromophores in the skin, causing them to heat up and break down. This process stimulates collagen production in the skin, leading to improved skin texture, reduced pigmentation, and overall skin rejuvenation.

Vascular Lesions

Before and After Photos

The appearance of vascular lesions on the skin can cause distress and self-consciousness for many patients. This category of skin conditions includes:

  • Spider Veins
  • Broken Capillaries
  • Rosacea
  • Angiomas
  • Telangiectasias
  • Port-Wine Stains
  • Birthmarks
  • Cherry Angiomas
  • Hemangiomas

In many cases, these conditions are not harmful to a patient’s health but can be bothersome and impact their quality of life.

IPL therapy reduces the appearance of vascular lesions by targeting and destroying the pigment in the lesion. Using multiple wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin without damaging the surrounding tissue, the M22 IPL can address a multitude of skin pigmentation issues.

Age Spots

Age spots, also known as solar lentigines or liver spots, are areas of hyperpigmentation that develop on the skin due to sun damage, aging, and genetics. These spots can cause an uneven skin tone, making you look older than your actual age.

Fortunately, IPL has allowed us to address these concerns safely and effectively through photo rejuvenation. By targeting the pigmented cells in the skin, the light energy breaks them down and promotes collagen production for a more youthful appearance.

Personal Consultation

Experienced dermatologist Dr. Seiger will evaluate your skin type and individual needs during a consultation to determine if IPL photofacials are right for you. With his expertise and the latest technology, you can achieve even pigmentation and more youthful-looking skin without surgery or extended recovery time.

What is the Procedure Like?

During your treatment, you will wear protective eyewear while we apply a cooling gel to the targeted area. Once you are fully prepared, the IPL device will then be applied to the skin, delivering pulses of light at specific wavelengths, according to your individual treatment plan. The IPL treatment experience is not a painful one. You may experience a mild sensation similar to the snapping of a rubber band, but most patients tolerate the treatment well.

After an IPL treatment, patients can expect to experience some mild redness and swelling, which should subside within a few hours. It is important to avoid exposure to direct sunlight and apply sunscreen with a high SPF to protect the treated area from further damage. Patients are also advised to avoid any strenuous activities or exercise for the first 24 hours after treatment.

Results can typically be seen within a week or two following the procedure, as the pigmented areas begin to darken and flake off.

While some patients may require multiple sessions to achieve optimal results, most notice a significant improvement in their skin after just one treatment. You can enjoy a more even skin tone and improved complexion, helping you to look and feel your best. At Skin & Vein Center, we are committed to providing our patients with safe and effective treatments that deliver natural-looking results.

FAQ

What is IPL?

IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light therapy, is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that uses a broad spectrum of light to target skin imperfections such as age spots, sun damage, and rosacea.

How does IPL work on age spots?

IPL works by delivering a specific wavelength of light to the targeted area. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the age spots, causing them to break up and fade away over time.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient, but most people require between 3-5 sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart to achieve optimal results.

Is there any downtime after an IPL treatment?

Most patients experience some redness and mild swelling immediately following the treatment, but this usually subsides within a few hours. You can return to your normal activities immediately following the procedure.

Will my age spots come back after IPL?

While IPL can significantly reduce the appearance of age spots, it cannot prevent new spots from forming. Wearing sunscreen and protecting your skin from further sun damage can help prolong the results of your treatment.

Can IPL be used on other areas of the body besides the face?

Yes, IPL can be used on any area of the body with age spots or other skin imperfections. Popular treatment areas include the hands, chest, and arms.
