Rosacea is a chronic disorder that can often be life-disruptive. It appears primarily on the face, and is characterized by remissions and flare-ups.

Rosacea typically begins after the age of 30 and appears as redness on the cheeks, chin, nose, or forehead that comes and goes. Over time, the redness will become more persistent and deeper in color. Visible blood vessels may also appear. Should it be left untreated, pimples and bumps may develop, and in more severe cases, the nose may grow bumpy and swollen.

While rosacea can affect anyone, individuals with fair skin who tend to blush easily are thought to be in a higher risk group. While women are more frequently diagnosed, the more severe symptoms tend to appear in men.

How to Get Rid of Rosacea

There is no cure for rosacea and the cause is unknown; however, there are medical therapies and treatments that can alleviate the symptoms.

Light-based mild rosacea treatment can reduce Rosacea symptoms and provide clearer looking skin. It can also reduce the papules, pustules, and patches, as well as the swelling, inflammation and discomfort of rosacea.

These light-based treatments use pulses of light on the target areas to treat the blood vessels that cause the chronic redness. After these blood vessels are treated, the redness and rash will disappear. In addition, this procedure can also improve skin tone and diminish the appearance of broken blood vessels, as well as the skin breakouts associated with rosacea.

This type of treatment offers fewer side effects than oral medications or antibiotics. Light-based treatments can also offer quicker results than medications, again making it an alternative to creams or medications.

Green Tea Treatment

Working in two ways, the antioxidants in green tea can speed up the healing of rosacea related symptoms and improve the health of your skin by keeping it hydrated through ingestion, and green tea can also help soothe the irritated and potentially painful rash by soaking a cloth in cold tea and applying it to the affected area.

Lavender Oil

Containing a natural antiseptic, the cooling properties of lavender oil will soothe the affected area and reduce swelling due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Massaging a cotton ball soaked in the oil into the skin will shrink the blood vessels under the skin. You can also mix a tablespoon of almond oil with one drop of lavender oil, rub it onto the face, and leave it on overnight. It is important to test lavender oil first, as it can cause irritation.

Honey

Honey is more than a sweet treat to pour over your biscuit—it contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that help ease the symptoms of many skin conditions. Use alone or mixed with olive oil and whole milk for a relatively quick reduction in redness and swelling. Honey also makes a great moisturizer without leaving the skin feeling oily.

Licorice

Recent studies have revealed licorice extract to contain intensive anti-inflammatory properties which can reduce irritation to the skin and lessen redness, creating healthier skin cells. Mixing licorice powder, honey, and aloe vera creates a super compound that, when applied to the face twice daily for 15 minutes at a time, may not be an effective Rosacea Treatment, but it may aid with Rosacea symptoms. rosacea
