Treatment Options for Psoriasis Available At Skin and Vein Center

psoriasis2Suffering from psoriasis? It’s painful, embarrassing and challenging to treat – but there are effective treatment options available.

Let’s take a look at what psoriasis is, and how to manage:

What’s Psoriasis?

It’s classified as an autoimmune disease where the skin grows rapidly, causing excess clusters to appear in different areas of the body. Some of the main traits of psoriasis include redness, scaling and itchiness.

The Types of Psoriasis

To treat efficiently, skincare experts must first analyze the type of psoriasis you have. There are five types known to date, and these include:

  • ~Erythordemeric Psoriasis – which is characterized red and itchy patches covering a bigger and more visible portion of the skin.
  • ~Guttate Psoriasis – occurs in mole-sized spots that are pink. These can transpire in multiple areas.
  • ~Inverse Psoriasis- these are common in less exposed areas of the body, like the pubic area, under the arms, or folds in the skin.
  • ~Pustular Psoriasis – patients will experience eruptions of white sores, coupled by red and inflamed skin.
  • ~Plaque Psoriasis – this is one of the most common types of psoriasis, and it’s when there are heavy blotches of red skin covered with white flakes.

With any type of psoriasis, it can be bothersome to carry on with daily life due to the incessant itching.

Treatment Options for Psoriasis

  • ~Topical Treatments – once a proper diagnosis has been made, skincare experts may prescribe creams that are applied on the affected area. Topical creams are seen as highly effective, but the downside is that they only provide short-term results.
  • ~Systematic Drugs – many studies have been made in psoriasis, and patients with moderate and arthritis psoriasis may be placed on daily medication to manage outbreaks. Such prescription medicines can either be taken orally or through injection, and examples include Acitretin, Cyclosporine, Methotrexate and off-label varieties.
  • ~UV Light Boxes – touted as a new wave of treatment for psoriasis, because it provides long-term results. UV light boxes or phototherapy work by applying safe doses of UV light to the affected areas. This in turn impedes the growth of psoriasis cells, and places the disease in remission.
  • ~Biologics – these are protein-laden prescriptions that are applied through injection in patients. They are known to be some of the most efficient treatments for psoriasis on the marketplace today.

Skin care experts will often combine several plans for psoriasis – known as complementary and alternative plans. In the end though, most are customized, since no one patient responds the same way to individual treatments
