Counteract Inactivity During Quarantine with a Vein Treatment

One of the biggest struggles many are dealing with in quarantine is long bouts of inactivity. Many individuals have been shut in their homes for months now. It can be difficult to handle this when you are dealing with vein issues already. Extended periods of inactivity can make vein issues even worse. Fortunately, we offer a variety of treatments that can help alleviate symptoms of your vein difficulties. Choose your vein treatment today.

Endovenous Laser Ablation

One of the most common forms of vein issues that can occur with prolonged periods of inactivity is varicose veins. These types of veins are observed to be thick and rope-like and are just under the surface of your skin. This condition is the result of malfunctioning vein valves that cause blood to flow in the opposite direction; the end result is blood pooling in your leg veins and create a bulging appearance. Endovenous laser ablation is one of our most popular and effective vein treatments to help get rid of your varicose veins. The procedure is done with a tiny catheter that is inserted into your faulty vein through a small incision. We then use laser energy directed through the catheter to permanently seal the faulty vein. As blood flow is cut off, the body will naturally redirect blood flow through other healthy veins. Eventually your body will break down the faulty vein and absorb it back into the body.

Endovenous laser ablation is a quick and easy procedure. Patients will only experience minor bruising and swelling after the procedure is complete, which will fade within a few short days. Best of all, this treatment has a high success rate, ensuring your veins will be treated efficiently.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Occasionally, endovenous laser ablation is unable to remove some of the largest varicose veins found below the skin. If your vein disease is similar to this, you may require ambulatory phlebectomy. This treatment uses surgical techniques to remove these larger surface veins. No large incisions are needed, as we use tiny punctures that are made around the problematic vein. The veins are then removed through these punctures and closed with small sutures. Recovery is often quick and minimal scarring is found around the treated area. Often times we will combine endovenous laser ablation and ambulatory phlebectomy during a single treatment to treat all the problematic veins at once. This ensures you will not need multiple treatments and will only go through one single recovery period.

Sclerotherapy

Another way to break down and get rid of faulty veins is by choosing a procedure known as sclerotherapy. This relatively simple procedure works very similar to endovenous laser ablation by closing down faulty veins. Instead of using laser energy, sclerotherapy closes down veins with a solution called sclerosant. It is injected directly into the veins, causing the body to seal and break down the vein.

Some veins may be harder to navigate than others; if this is the case, we recommend using ultrasound technology to help guide our technician. This is typically required for spider veins that are difficult to navigate through sight alone. Spider veins are similar to varicose veins in that they are the result of our veins not working efficiently. Instead of being rope-like in appearance, they are small and spread further. While spider veins are not an immediate health risk, they can cover large areas of the infected limb. Sclerotherapy is minimally invasive, ensuring a speedy recovery and minimal risks.

Compression Sleeves

If you are not experiencing a significant impact on your veins from inactivity, a more conservative treatment may be used first. In these cases, we can prescribe medical grade compression sleeves to assist your legs and arms. These sleeves work by applying pressure in gradient strength along the limb. This encourages proper blood flow in your limbs and helps the veins work more efficiently. Compression sleeves are available in a variety of strengths depending on the severity of your vein issues. Lower strength sleeves can be picked up at your local pharmacy, while we can prescribe stronger compression sleeves often used for post-treatment recovery. Even after you have dealt with your vein disease, you can continue finding added benefits of wearing compression stockings. It is recommended for other conditions such as lipedema and lymphedema as well.
