Top Foods For Healthy Skin

Your skin is your most visible feature and largest organ, and keeping it healthy will help you look younger and feel more confident. There are many things you can do to protect the skin you’re in such as wearing sunscreen, washing your face before you go to bed at night and using moisturizer, but one of the most consistent and beneficial things you can do to promote healthy skin is to eat well. Certain foods in particular are especially helpful in keeping skin moisturized, glowing and refreshed:

Water

It’s no secret that water is crucial to creating beautiful skin. Fine lines and wrinkles become less apparent when skin is sufficiently hydrated, your body is better able to rid itself of harmful toxins which dull the surface of the skin, your blood flows with greater ease giving your skin a natural glow, and moist skin is more supple. Replace coffee, soda and other beverages with more water for more beautiful skin.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are so important in preventing free-radical damage to the skin. Lots of foods provide them including berries, spinach, beans, tomatoes, apricots, beets, squash, sweet potatoes and more. Keeping your plate filled with these foods will keep your skin looking healthy while helping to slow down the aging process.

Fish and Poultry

Salmon, tuna, and chicken have a specific type of antioxidant known as “Coenzyme Q10” or “CoQ10” which helps to soften wrinkles and keep skin looking plush. The body naturally produces this enzyme but as we age, our body produces less and less of it, causing more wrinkles and sagging, By eating a diet with plenty of fish and poultry, you’re helping your body replace the CoQ10 that it’s slowly losing.

Foods High in Vitamin A

To keep flaky, dry skin at bay, look for foods that are high in Vitamin A such as carrots, cantaloupe, oranges, leafy greens such as spinach and kale, eggs, and low-fat dairy foods. Brown spots tend to improve when the skin is getting enough Vitamin A.

Foods High in Vitamin C

Vitamin C is important in any diet to help combat the effects of sun exposure. The sun can cause a lot of damage to the skin, breaking down collagen and elastin and causing spots, but foods rich in Vitamin A can help reverse that process. Papayas, broccoli, red bell peppers, all kinds of citrus fruits, papayas, and brussel sprouts are great sources of Vitamin C.
