Acne & Acne Scar Treatment

We have all dealt with acne at some point in our lives, whether it was a minor outbreak or is a continuing, lifelong struggle. Acne can not only be frustrating to deal with but can leave behind undesirable scarring if untreated. Fortunately, we offer a variety of acne scar treatment options that can help keep your acne in check and even reduce the appearance of scar tissue. Here are some treatment options we recommend if you are dealing with acne and acne scarring:

HydraFacial

One reason why our skin develops excessive acne is when the pores on our skin becomes clogged. This can occur when skin is exposed to UV rays or experiencing a change in hormone levels. One of our most popular procedures is known as a HydraFacial. This treatment helps to reduce the appearance of skin issues such as acne while improving the overall elasticity. HydraFacial works by hydrating the skin and extracting any dead skin cells. A handheld applicator is used to scrub the face and open up your pores. We then apply an antioxidant-rich serum that will help stimulate collagen production to rejuvenate the surface cells. Think of it as a spa experience for your face!

Patients of the HydraFacial report in seeing a big difference in their skin hydration and brightness. This procedure is noninvasive, and you won’t experience any down time. Patients can even receive a HydraFacial during regular intervals to maintain their appearance.

Chemical Peels

You can put your best face forward with a simple chemical peel treatment that works wonders on active acne. Chemical peels are able to treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne and acne scarring. This type of procedure works by removing the outer layer of dead skin cells on the face. Chemical peels use a special chemical such as trichloroacetic acid or hydroquinone that will cause the skin layer to start peeling. The entire face will be applied with the chemical to ensure uniform results.

The strength of the chemical peel will be considered for the results you want. To keep acne in check, a light peel will do the trick. Reducing the appearance of acne scarring takes a little more. Deep peels can leave your face red for days, but the results will be well worth it in the end. Since you are removing a layer of skin tissue, it is recommended that individuals who receive a chemical peel stay out of the sun for a few days and apply sunscreen.

Laser Scar Removal

Active acne is not all we can treat at the Skin & Vein Center. Acne scarring is long lasting damage that will haunt your skin. We can help your skin look smoother and clearer with a laser scar removal procedure. We use state of the art laser technology that can smooth out the surface of the skin. It works by stimulating collagen production in the skin, allowing new skin tissue to be produced. However, our laser scar removal will actually vaporize any scar tissue, allowing smoother skin to replace the scar tissue.

Fat Grafting and Injections

Acne scar tissue can also be seen as indentions along the skin’s surface. We are able to fill in this loss of volume through a fat grafting procedure. The treatment removes fat tissue from other parts of the body and injects it into the treated area. Results of fat grafting report smoother and firmer skin reducing the appearance of acne scarring. Injectable solutions can also be used in a similar manner to replace the loss of volume.

Microdermabrasion

Less severe forms of acne scarring can be treated with a microdermabrasion. This type of procedure essentially buffs away the dead skin layer. The skin is exfoliated allowing your skin to feel softer and more flexible. Most patients report a feeling of sandpaper during the procedure, but the results are well worth it. Microdermabrasion is great for lighter forms of acne scarring.

Skin Care Products Work as Acne Scar Treatment

Acne scarring can also be reduced by reducing any inflammation around the area. A variety of skin care products can do the trick and also lighten any hyperpigmentation in the scar tissue. You will want scrubs or creams that include glycolic acids that will do just that and exfoliate the skin. These skin care products are unable to treat indentations in the skin left behind by scarring. The other listed treatments will take care of that and more.
