Same-Day Wart Treatment
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Fenton, Sterling, Livonia, MI and San Diego, CA

A wart is a skin growth that results from a viral infection from strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV).
Warts can appear on the face, hands, feet, and genitals as rough, skin-colored bumps. They are contagious and often require treatment, especially when they cause discomfort, itchiness, or bleeding. Treatment can enhance comfort and prevent the spread to other parts of the body or other people.
The experts at Skin & Vein Center West offer same-day treatments to remove your warts safely and precisely. Instead of waiting weeks or months for a check-up, you can walk in without an appointment (calling ahead is preferred but not required) and be treated the same day.

About Warts
Warts form on the skin after exposure to HPV. There are more than 200 types of this viral condition, although not all of them cause warts. (1) You can get a wart from a cut or scrape, through skin-to-skin contact, or after touching a contaminated surface. The break on your skin does not have to be noticeable to cause a wart, as HPV can even enter through micro-tears. After exposure to HPV, the wart usually forms within a few months. Without treatment, they can spread and grow bigger, or fade and reappear.
Wart Removal Process
When warts are persistent, change color, or cause discomfort even after trying over-the-counter remedies, they may require the expertise of a specialist to prevent the situation from worsening. Skin & Vein Center West offers these options for same-day wart removal:
Excision
Excision is the process of cutting or shaving the wart on your skin using a scalpel, scissors, or curettes. Your specialist will apply a local anesthetic for your comfort. This procedure offers immediate and precise results by directly targeting stubborn warts, which carry a larger risk of scarring and recurrence if they are not professionally treated. This procedure is ideal when less invasive methods like cryotherapy are not successful.
Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy freezes the wart with a very cold substance, usually liquid nitrogen, which causes it to scab and fall off. Cryotherapy is ideal for warts that are large, resist treatment, cause discomfort, and begin to spread. This treatment requires about two to four sessions to completely remove the infected skin tissues. (2)

Candidates
If you are experiencing a wart that is persistent, changes color, causes discomfort, and is a source of embarrassment or self-consciousness, a same-day wart treatment may be ideal for you. If you have tried over-the-counter medications such as salicylic acid, imiquimod, 5-fluorouracil, retinoids, or podofilox and have not seen a difference, proper treatment from a specialist can effectively remove the wart.
Although warts are non-cancerous, they can spread from one part of the body to another or even to other people. Treatments are considered effective when they eliminate the wart and prevent it from spreading.
To undergo same-day wart treatment, you must also be in relatively good health and have realistic expectations and patience for your procedure results, as some treatments may require multiple sessions.
Personal Consultation and Initial Treatment
During your personal consultation, one of our expert team members will evaluate your medical history, examine your wart and the surrounding skin, and discuss your overall goals and treatment options. They will recommend the best procedure type for your specific wart and create an effective treatment plan. During this meeting, they will also outline the total cost of your procedure and address any questions or concerns you may have.
Your removal can either occur at this appointment or at a later date, depending on the level of treatment that you will require and your personal preferences. Recovery and Results
The details of your recovery will depend on what type of wart removal you undergo. In most cases, you may notice tenderness, swelling, and scabbing after your procedure. These symptoms will subside after a couple of days as your skin naturally heals. After your treatment, we may have you elevate the treatment site and ice it intermittently, depending on the procedure you receive and the size of your wart. You must keep the area clean, dry, and bandaged for protection during the first 48 hours. If you experience any discomfort, over-the-counter medications as suggested by your specialist can help. After two days, you should continue to clean the area with mild soap and apply petroleum jelly or antibiotic cream to keep the area moist and prevent excessive scabbing. You should also avoid swimming and applying pressure on the area for about two weeks. Full healing occurs around the fourth week.

FAQ
How will I know if I need surgical wart removal?
If you have tried over-the-counter remedies and did not see an improvement or are experiencing persistent discomfort, bleeding, or a change in skin color, then a surgical wart removal may be the ideal solution for your concerns. The best way to determine if your wart needs professional treatment is to attend a personal consultation at our office; we invite you to reach out to learn more.
What is the difference between a wart and a mole?
Although moles and warts can look somewhat similar in some cases, distinguishing between them is important, as they present different health risks. A wart is rough on the surface, appears grey with a grainy texture, and is contagious, as it is a result of HPV. On the other hand, moles usually appear smooth or dark, and they occur from genetics or sun exposure, which can sometimes become cancerous.
Are all warts contagious?
Yes, all warts are contagious because they are a result of HPV. They can spread through direct skin-to-skin contact or from contaminated surfaces. The virus usually enters through a cut or wet skin. To prevent a wart from spreading, patients should get their wart removed professionally.
How much does a same-day wart removal cost?
The cost of your wart removal procedure depends on the treatment type, how many sessions you require, and the complexity of your concerns. During your personal consultation, our team will provide a cost outline.
Is wart removal permanent?
Wart removal offers a high success rate, but we cannot guarantee permanence. We will remove the existing growth, but we cannot always eliminate HPV, so a wart can recur if the immune system is stressed or if small amounts of the virus remain. Removing the wart professionally and effectively does reduce the risk of recurrence, however.
What causes a wart to form?
Certain forms of human papillomavirus (HPV) cause a wart to form on the skin, which usually enters through tiny cuts, scratches, and weakened areas of the skin. HPV causes rapid extra-cell growth on the outer layer of the skin, which is contagious and spread via direct skin-to-skin contact or through contact with contaminated surfaces.
