With everything good, a little bad must accompany it, and hormone replacement therapy does have some risks that should be considered. This is it is extremely important that you trust the doctor you are visiting. Dr. Seiger and crew will run a complete history before sitting with you and explaining in detail the risks associated with any procedure you are about to undertake; they want only the best for their patients, and if there are too many risks involved, they won’t proceed any further. Hormone replacement therapy may not be for everyone, but when it’s right for you, it really works!

Your Medical History

The first thing we will look at when contemplating HRT will be your medical history. If you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant, you will have to wait until after the baby is born to undergo HRT. If you have a history of strokes, have had or currently have breast or endometrial cancer, or suffer from blood clots, you are also not a good candidate for HRT. Abnormal vaginal bleeding is another reason we may decide that alternative methods may be best for you.

As with any medical procedure, there is always a chance of side effects, some not so serious and some that may cause you to think twice. The serious risks associated with hormone replacement therapy include stroke or blood clots, endometrial cancer, and a higher chance of developing dementia—especially if you have been in menopause for 10 years or longer. Our medical history pre-screening will help avoid most of these serious risks; people with a history of strokes, blood clots or breast or endometrial cancer will not be considered ideal candidates for HRT. The more benign risks include gallstone issues, headaches, nausea, and indigestion, most of which can be treated with over the counter medications if they become an issue during treatment.

The Benefits of Hormone Replacement Therapy

The benefits of this treatment program far surpass the risks in most cases, and as we stated earlier, before beginning any medical procedure, we will sit down with you and discuss the issues thoroughly. HRT has the ability to change your life for the better, and to automatically reject the benefits due to the risks could be detrimental to your health and well-being.
