Earlobe Repair & Reduction

Earlobes can experience damage or lengthen for many different reasons. Earlobes can lengthen because of age or genetics, or as a result of wearing heavy earrings for long periods of time. In other cases, people have had their earlobes modified and now wish to return to an original state, some patients have suffered accidents or trauma that require earlobe surgery to repair the tear.

A procedure called otoplasty, or earlobe correction surgery, can be used to restore the earlobes to a more youthful or natural look and form. The procedure can alter the size, position, or proportion of the ears.

How an Otoplasty Specialist Can Help

If you are suffering from lengthening earlobes or earlobe damage, you should consult with an otoplasty specialist to discuss the repairs and/or changes you would like. There are different techniques that can be used depending on your desired results.

Earlobe Reduction

Earlobe correction surgery can take out excess skin and tissue that may be caused by earlobe lengthening. A tiny incision is made in the natural creases of the ear to blend in and become essentially invisible. The excess skin is then taken out and the area sutured. There will be a small, tiny scar behind the earlobe.

Earlobe Correction Surgery

Each procedure will take approximately 30 to 90 minutes to complete, and is performed by an otoplasty specialist using a local anesthetic. In some cases, a mild sedative may also be given for additional patient comfort. Torn earlobe surgery, used to repair torn earlobes, is performed under local anesthesia. A small incision is made and the tear is repaired with tiny sutures. There will be minimal scarring. Should you want to re-pierce your ears, you will need to allow approximately eight weeks of healing.

After earlobe correction surgery, you may be required to wear a head dressing that will compress the area for proper healing. Additionally, you will receive a prescription for an antibiotic and a pain reliever. Since the procedures are minimally invasive, you should be able to return to your regular activities in just a few hours.
